The first thing that I need to say is that this was a very special Mission for all of the Patriot Guard Riders. Although some think that this run was to endorse the Flag Amendment; it wasn’t. If you have been on the PGR website, it is not hard to see that we love "Old Glory" and will do what we can to protect it BUT this Mission was to honor Rick Monday.

On April 25, 1976, Rick Monday was playing center field for the Chicago Cubs at Dodger Stadium when he spotted two protesters who had jumped onto the field with the flag and were kneeling in the grass. They had soaked the flag with lighter fluid and were preparing to set it on fire. Monday sprinted toward the pair and snatched the flag to the cheers of many in the crowd of 40,000 fans -- who launched into a spirited, rendition of "God Bless America."

The yellowed flag already had been on quite a journey after Monday's celebrated grab. He jogged to the sidelines and handed it to Dodgers pitcher Doug Rau in the third-base dugout.
Authorities took it for several weeks while the two protesters were prosecuted and fined. Then the Dodgers passed the flag back to Monday at his request, and he kept it at home until his Florida residence was badly damaged in a hurricane.
It remained sealed in a safe-deposit box until this spring, when the Mondays were asked to appear with it in Washington, D.C.

On April 25, 2006 there was a flag flown by the 101st Airborne Medvac unit in Iraq, to pay honor to Rick Monday, a Marine Corps veteran, who committed an unselfish act of Patriotism in 1976 on a ball field as protesters were about to burn our American flag. The flag that was flown in Iraq was sent to Mrs. Monday in hopes that she would forward it to her husband as a token of his support for his beloved country. To pick up this very flag in Florida and take it to Los Angeles, California to Dodger stadium to present it to Rick in a post-game ceremony on 4th of July.

Well atleast that was the way it was suppose to go.....lol

You know, I had read several things in the forums about how far behind
the schedules where running but thought that "Kentucky" could hold to theirs....lol. Now on the serious note....we didn't keep our schedule but we did deliver Flag Babe, Toons and Robert to Indiana without a scratch on them.......now we can't say that about Brooks (aka Helmet Killer) though...lol

It was such an honor to meet these two Fire Fighters from Louisville, KY. This was their first Mission and I am proud to say that they are my PGR Brothers. I just had to get a shot of this for all of you to see. On his gas tank are the names of Fallen Fire Fighters. In memory of that awful day of 9-11.

Did I forget to mention.....it's going to be HOT today.

The guy in the green shirt is a trucker from Texas and with the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA). He had been tracking the site and knew we were meeting here.

I tried so hard to get everyone while they were rolling in....but I went in the little girls room for just a second....came out and Barbara Lee, Jamie and Robert were already there.
